Wawa completed a BComm degree in Econometrics at the University of Pretoria and holds a BComm (Honours) in Economics from Stellenbosch University. In 2016 Wawa was a recipient of the Econex bursary for a Masters degree in Economics at Stellenbosch University.
Wawa’s postgraduate research focused mainly on development economics. Her Honours research project analysed the impact of internal migration and remittances on poverty in South Africa and her Masters research made use of the latest Income and expenditure Survey (IES) to construct a poverty profile for South Africa. This has led her to become skilled at working with both the National Income Dynamics Study (NIDS) and IES datasets. During her time at Stellenbosch University Wawa participated in a leadership development program, the South Africa Washington International Program, which gave her work exposure at the International Finance Corporation in Washington, D.C.
Wawa is interested in competition economics and quantitative analysis. Since joining Econex in 2017, she has contributed to an abuse of dominance case and research projects.
