Paula completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Stellenbosch. She has a BA (PPE), a BComm Hons (Economics), MComm (Economics) and PhD in Economics from the University of Stellenbosch. She has a particular interest in public economics and policy making and has worked as a member of the Research on Socio-Economic Policy (ReSEP) group attached to the Department of Economics at the University of Stellenbosch. Paula’s PhD dealt with an in-depth analysis of the education system in South Africa, relying extensively on education and household survey data. Paula therefore has considerable experience of public sector databases used in education and healthcare policy, such as NIDS, GHS, IES, LFS, QLFS and SACMEQ. She has also consulted for the Department of Basic Education (DBE) around issues pertaining to teachers in the South African education system. Since joining Econex Paula has worked on competition matters for many large clients. She played a leading role in representing Cell C in the proposed merger between Vodacom and Neotel. In addition, she has done work in the healthcare sector, including extensive on benefit/ incidence and healthcare need.
