Willem held bursaries from the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Stellenbosch University Economics department for his various years of study. He joined Econex in early 2014 as an economist after completing his MComm degree. Since then, he has worked on various projects within healthcare, competition policy and telecommunications, and has gained knowledge in many diverse industries. Willem has experience working on data-intensive projects that require the use of quantitative skills. Such projects include several studies conducted for the Competition Commission’s inquiry into the private healthcare sector, as well as price discrimination and excessive pricing cases.
