Econex provides expert economic analysis for companies that need economic assistance on trade remedies and trade practices. The field of international trade research has grown substantially in South Africa since the country’s admission to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in 1995. South Africa is also a member of various regional trade agreements such as SACU (Southern African Customs Union) and SADC (Southern African Development Community).

We provide in depth analysis on trade remedies and trade practices. We have appeared in this capacity before the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) on behalf of the Printing Industry of South Africa. Econex was also appointed by ITAC to conduct a review of the use of anti-dumping duties between 1994 and 2006. Recent trade investigations that we have been involved in include the increase in import tariffs on frozen chicken (for Shoprite) and the investigation into the alleged dumping of soda ash originating from the USA (for Consol).
