The use of concentration measures is a widespread phenomenon in the analysis of markets. One specifi application is in competition economics, where concentration indices are used to provide a fist insight into levels of competition in a specifi market. But concentration ratios are also used more generally in business analysis and most government statistical agencies publish concentration indices on a regular basis
